Recently, someone left a comment on this post I wrote back in March, 2013. Thank you, Christine! I had forgotten about writing it and really appreciated re-reading it. It was timely encouragement. So, as I have no plans for posting anything fresh for a few days, I'm putting this out there again in case you (like me!) may need a little nudge to ask for some of what the the Holy Spirit has to offer! (hint: they are the visible attributes of an authentic Christian life, not the juicy stuff you find in the produce department!)

Like the old song says, "comments are a girl's best friend." Or something like that... So... leave a comment! I love chatting here! Pretend you're on my back porch, kick the broken plastic sandbox toys aside, sip your iced coffee, or beer, or (__fill in the blank with your beverage of choice__) and let's talk about all the things, because back-porch blogging is what I do!

testing, testing....just wrote a long comment that diasappeared!
ReplyDeleteok, so since that posted, i just said...thank you for re-posting this. i must have missed it the first time you wrote it, oh but how perfect it is for me in this season of life! man, i need to become buddies with the holy spirit because all of those fruits are exactly what i need as a mother! its crazy how spot on they are with the prayers i have been saying...but have not been invoking the holy spirit for! like you, have a hard time relating to that person of the trinity but maybe thats exactly who i need. thanks theresa :)
ReplyDeleteSorry about the comment mixup...
DeleteI agree. The more years I rack up as a mother, the more I realize how "not great" I am at it and how much I need divine assistance. It really helps me to think of the Spirit as "powerful" and able to "arm me" with what I need to win small mothering victories throughout the day - like not yelling, or remaining calm during discipline w/ gentle correction, or responding to a request with joy and cheerfulness :)
Theresa that was SO GOOD!! Thank you! I feel like I yell a lot lately, especially at Ro, instead of gently getting to her level and offering a sweeter correction. Her behavior frustrates me like no other, but she's 3. I need some Spirit for her "spirit"!!
ReplyDeleteOh! Thanks, Liz!
DeleteI'm in the same boat - my kiddos put a strain on my sanity / emotional health / spiritual steadfastness like nothing I could have imagined. It's such a blessing to start anew every morning and pray for the grace to change and for the specific fruits to nurture!
(ps - you're such a good mom!)
