Gaudete! (a photo album on the third Sunday of Advent)

A photo dump.
Some pictures of how we've been keeping Advent, decorating, and "trimming the hearth."
And not a lot of pictures of actual people because I'm too frustrated for words by my camera and its ability to capture my fast-moving children in my dimly lit home.   With the exception of choosing our tree, you will be forced to imagine my family enjoying Advent...

    1. Gina, the In Conversation With God series of daily meditations are one of my absolute favorite spiritual reading of all time. They are written by a priest of Opus Dei and, as might expect, are infinitely applicable and relevant to ordinary, everyday life. They are just excellent - encouraging, challenging, practical. Truly worth the investment (it's an 8 (?) book series, usually priced around $100)
The book "Come, Lord Jesus" by Mother Mary Francis is good, but is a very different kind of Advent book. I have been very convicted by a lot in it, but I'm reading it as part of a women's group and I don't think I'd read it if it weren't for that commitment. I can't think of a way to put it other than she's very serious. She just takes everything very seriously. I wish I could be more specific or articulate. If you were interested in looking at it, I'd be happy to send you my copy after our group is finished reading it :)
Maybe I'll try to email you to tell you more about In Conversation with God. I think it's that good!!

  3. Lovely! I love how it looks so... Advent-y. (Does that make sense? I mean, your house really is decorated for *Advent*, not Christmas yet!)

  4. I am in love with the ornaments on your Jesse tree. And how fun to use a branch instead of a tree. Lovely all around.

    1. Thanks, Ann-Marie. I had made the ornaments a few year ago and love pulling them out every year! I had told another blogger I was going to write about our Jesse tree ornaments and traditions but set it aside when we all got sick last month. Maybe I'll try to work on it again :)

Like the old song says, "comments are a girl's best friend." Or something like that... So... leave a comment! I love chatting here! Pretend you're on my back porch, kick the broken plastic sandbox toys aside, sip your iced coffee, or beer, or (__fill in the blank with your beverage of choice__) and let's talk about all the things, because back-porch blogging is what I do!
