Embrace the Ordinary (vol 15)

This weekend I'm appreciating and honoring this boy.

This boy struggles so much with school work.  Reading, writing, and math don't come easily for him.  Self-starting, independent work, and focus are a challenge.  But he works hard and with help, he perseveres.  He starts his lessons each day cheerfully, he buckles down without a complaint, he takes my reminders to focus to heart.

I have been so proud of him lately.  Even though his progress isn't rapid, he is progressing and it's such a blessing to see it happen one small success at a time.  Because I know him, I can see these small successes for what they are - the fruit of real labor, of concentrated efforts - great personal triumphs.

Thank you, Dominic, for modeling cheerful perseverance in difficult tasks.  Hard won success are sweet and I'm so happy that you get to enjoy them.   I love you!

  1. Kuddos to Dominic, the ones who struggle earn extra jewels in heaven. My Dominic struggled in areas too, though today he is at College with a Credit average, just keeps missing Distinctions and I'm proud of him as he works so hard for those marks.

  2. What a lucky boy to have you for his mother, recognizing that he struggles but encouraging him through it and seeing his progress. <3

  3. Aw!

I felt similarly about Davion last night. Usually I would tell Davion the word when we were reading together when he couldn't get it after a few tries but then last night I waited, and waited, and waited 10 minutes while he persevered at the word "melted" and I was so proud watching how he kept working until he was overjoyed at finally figuring out the puzzle!

Like the old song says, "comments are a girl's best friend." Or something like that... So... leave a comment! I love chatting here! Pretend you're on my back porch, kick the broken plastic sandbox toys aside, sip your iced coffee, or beer, or (__fill in the blank with your beverage of choice__) and let's talk about all the things, because back-porch blogging is what I do!
