Our Itty Bitty (Pretty) Carrot Harvest

We pulled up our carrots earlier this week.  I had done a half-hearted job thinning out the plants back in June, and it kind of showed.  None were as big as we got last year.  We're trying to stay positive about the whole thing - instead of calling them "small" we're calling them "snack size"  :)  The kids enjoyed the surprise of pulling up the colored varieties we planted this year.  We really didn't know what to expect with those.  Oh, and here's an interesting something we learned - the purple carrots are orange on the inside!  Who'd have thought?!?

    1. The purple carrots were very good - quite sweet. The white ones were a little strange - a combination of bitter and earthy maybe? Once we roasted them though, they were fine :)

    1. probably not :( I used ten pounds of carrots for the soup party last year, and I think that we harvested about a pound's worth - and that's including the greens ;)

    1. Thanks, Amanda!
I'd love it if you can do the post, but your health and family are your priority! I hope you're doing better :)

  4. I swear you are living my life on the East Coast. We planted THOSE SAME CARROTS this year. I kept pulling a few here and there, but you have a great harvest! We love the purple ones! How do your white ones taste? Ours were kind of woody, it was odd.

PS--if you were missing Embrace the Ordinary, it's because life is overwhelming. However, I post tonight if you want to join the link-up. <3

    1. Hey... I thought you said you weren't a gardener ;)
Did your carrots come out any bigger than ours? The purple ones were really tasty (and pretty) but they tended to be the smallest of the bunch. Our white variety wasn't that good either.
I'm hoping to get an Embrace... in. I'd say "it's been a busy week" but that's starting to loose it's clout around here - the busyness is my actual life and it's not going anywhere =)

Like the old song says, "comments are a girl's best friend." Or something like that... So... leave a comment! I love chatting here! Pretend you're on my back porch, kick the broken plastic sandbox toys aside, sip your iced coffee, or beer, or (__fill in the blank with your beverage of choice__) and let's talk about all the things, because back-porch blogging is what I do!
