I've never painted a peg doll and I would like to start now because I'm am making a wooden magnetic toy theatre for my nephews... so I would like to use peg dolls as characters of my stories...
I live in Italy and, after a research on the Internet, I found that is quite difficult to find here the Americana colours you used. Could you recommend a site where to find them at reasonable price? I found something on Amazon.it, but they have very few colours at $6/7 each! Otherwise do you know similar colours?
My last question is: what's the name of the colour of the St. Zita's head? I think it would fit the best to the majority of my characters!
Thank you very much for any kind of help you may give me and sorry for my rusty english!!!!
OlimpiaAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03799954719142576818noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8377582441405318696.post-70545295291781997002020-12-08T09:23:59.951-05:002020-12-08T09:23:59.951-05:00Hi what did you use for the eyes if a brush what s...Hi what did you use for the eyes if a brush what size and what techniques did you do? You are an inspiration for me, as I have just commenced on my first peg doll painting project - painting an angel. I hope to graduate to a simple nativity scene before this Christmas. However, I am desperately in need of a few tips from you. Hope you can help me.

Can I use marker pen to draw outlines of the sleeves after painting the dress? Would the marker pen ink run once I spray varnish on it?

Looking forward to hearing from you. I would say, if you'd already looked at some images of St. Bakhita (on-line, or holy cards, etc...) maybe try looking around Pinterest or Etsy for other peg dolls of her. Since you're not selling your product, I think it's ok to look at what others have done for inspiration and ideas. I know I've seen some dolls of her that try to represent some of her African heritage as well as her religious habit, so that might be a way to break up all that black! Good luck! Have fun with he exchange! I either just do the top and bottom lines and they sort of trail off at the shoulder region, or lately, I've just been making the top line to give the "idea" of a sleeve. I'd say experiment and see what you like.
For the sealer, I use a bigger (3/4 inch wide?) soft brush. I first do the crease between the head and body, and then the head. When the head is dry I do the body.
Hope this helps! Have fun in the doll exchange!! I am new to peg doll painting and am participating in a peg doll exchange for the nativity. My questions may be a silly but hoping you can give me some pointer. Do you paint the very bottom of the peg doll? Also, do you connect the back of the sleeve on the back shoulder and front of the sleeve to the armpit region? Also, what brush do you use to apply the sealer? Thank you. JennMomofonehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08012512782912285640noreply@blogger.com
