Autumn Handmade Items for Sale, the Ordinary Lovely Shoplet, and Why I'm Not Re-opening My Etsy Shop

Mini Announcement!!  I'm opening a Shoplet (that's a mini shop!) on my blog for the Christmas shopping season!

For quite some time I'd been considering re-opening my Etsy shop.  I kept thinking and thinking about it and I never did it.  I finally realized it was because my heart wasn't in it.   Like, super not in it.  My fabulous life is also a busy one, and the spare time I have for creating things is at a minimum, and therefore very valuable to me.  I'm not even speaking of monetary value.  My creative time and energies are valuable to me in that they're good for my well-being.

Years ago, when I was busy doing crafting for Etsy and craft fairs, it wasn't good for my well-being.  I finally realized I love being crafty when it's for my family and friends.  Crafting for "strangers" just doesn't hold the appeal for me that it does for some. I take a crazy amount of joy in gifting and selling handmade items to people that are connected to me - family, friends, friends of friends, regular and even occasional blog readers, social media friends.  If you find your way to my Shoplet, then I'm talking about you!

I've been a successful craftier in the past and I won't venture to guess what the future holds, but Etsy and craft fairs aren't for me in my current season of life.  Sharing the joy I take in making a few simple handmade gifts with friends is!  So I hope you'll visit the Shoplet when it's up in a new post in the near future.

In today's post, you can check out the few things I have for sale to celebrate the remaining months of autumn!  (see below) Remember, it's still autumn! (see end of post for details on how to purchase.)

And if you're not in a position to buy anything this season, that's ok too!  Come back here on Wednesday for a Happy Handmade Giveaway to celebrate the third Birthday of Ordinary Lovely!  There will be presents!  (and they're for you!)  Ooh!  I can't wait!!!!

  1. Love this! I'm holding myself back from purchasing the pumpkins but may have to request one of your teething rings?!? Any chance those will make an appearance before Christmas? I was just looking at your tutorial today when I was thinking about making one for the baby :) Ooh, and he doesn't need bibs yet but will soon. That might be a good little stocking stuffer! (You have my mind going, girl. I will try my best not to flood you with requests :)

    2. SOLD! to the gorgeous lady in the first row!
Let me know when you want to come by and pick them up. I only wish we had some new furniture so I could show you our completed living room. But if there's anything Russ and I do slowly, it's make big decisions on furniture ;)

  3. Brilliant idea - and the right choice for this season of life. I opened an Etsy shop this year (no sales yet) and have had several requests for larger custom made organic quilts but it's not going to work in this season for me for the same reasons you have outlined. I love your little pumpkins and would be very tempted if I lived in the US, there's something extra special about buying from someone you 'know'.

    1. Karen, I LOVE your quilts! Every fabric you have on Instagram and your blog is lovelier than the next! I'm so impressed by your talent. (my favorite one in your shop right now is the Wildwood one.) I know what you mean about custom orders though. They are so flattering to receive, and I'd love to make people happy with a specific product, but it's much too time consuming for me now :( Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

    2. Thank you Theresa! I know you understand well. Making right choices is better than pleasing others. Thanks also for sharing that you love my quilts! :)

  4. If I ever actually decorated my house, I'd be buying those pumpkins in a hot second. Alas, a decorator I am not.
Very smart of you to really think about why you like to do what you do and plan accordingly. So often, we start out doing something we love, then get overwhelmed and end up bitter about it all.

    1. Even though I have a creative streak, it doesn't translate into home decorating :( Right now, our decor is books and toys on the floor and crayon drawings on the walls :) Needless to say, it's colorful and eclectic!

  5. I love those pumpkins. Checking ravelry now to see whether I can knit something like it! Thanks for the inspiration--what a great idea for those of us with a household of "hands-on" little ones!

    1. I bet you'll be able to find one!
Yes, my kids tend to throw around our pumpkins. They don't appreciate "decor" but are good with projectiles ;)

Like the old song says, "comments are a girl's best friend." Or something like that... So... leave a comment! I love chatting here! Pretend you're on my back porch, kick the broken plastic sandbox toys aside, sip your iced coffee, or beer, or (__fill in the blank with your beverage of choice__) and let's talk about all the things, because back-porch blogging is what I do!
